Memory 14 (trivial positive) & 15 (trivial negative)
Planning Barnaby's birthday party. Form of Springerle cookies. 4/5 remaining. Episode 5, 01:16 - 14:52.
Kotetsu and Barnaby are standing outside when they are approached by a woman who recognizes Barnaby. She asks him to sign her baby. Barnaby does so, and she congratulates him on his birthday, which is apparently tomorrow, and asks what he has planned, to which he says he doesn't really have anything. As he's handing her pen back, she fumbles and drops it. Kotetsu steps in to get it for her, but accidentally kicks it into the street, where it is immediately run over by a car. He curses the car while Barnaby sighs.
The next morning in the office, he comes in in high spirits ("the blue skies make things like damage fines seem so unimportant, right?" "no."), and Barnaby sighs. When Kotetsu asks what the matter is, he says "Seeing your face reminds me of what happened yesterday. Just thinking about it makes me sad." Barnaby flashes back to the destruction of the pen. Kotetsu tries to figure out what he could mean, and flashes back to Barnaby saying he doesn't have anything planned for his birthday.
Later, in the heroes' training room, Kotetsu tries to convince Blue Rose, Fire Emblem, and Rock Bison that they should throw a surprise party for Barnaby. They are skeptical. But Sky High jumps in to say it's a good idea, and they all get excited over it.
Karina asks Kotetsu what he's planning to get Barnaby, and offers to help him figure out something good. Kotetsu then proceeds to spend the afternoon showing Barnaby fashion magazines and asking what he likes. Fortunately Barnaby is completely oblivious to the concept that someone might want to give him a birthday present, and is just annoyed. Eventually he points to a television where the news is showing a famous diamond and says he wants that.
For the actual birthday party, Kotetsu plans and rehearses a scene where he invites Barnaby out to catch a group of thieves with him!! In the process of explaining this, a thief (Rock Bison in a ski mask) bumps into him, and they chase him down to find the boss of the thieves (Sky High in a ski mask), and confront him dramatically!! However, then two more thieves (Blue Rose and Fire Emblem in ski masks) pull guns on them from behind. Kotetsu dramatically asks Barnaby what they can do, and then the guns fire confetti and Happy Birthday banners. For the purposes of this rehearsal, Kotetsu carries a pink plush bunny which plays the part of Barnaby (with Kotetsu's help). Karina mentions that it's a present for Barnaby from all of them.
The actual execution of this goes less well! Barnaby refuses to go help catch thieves without orders from HQ, Rock Bison gets stuck, and instead of Sky High they run into Pauly, a real criminal who had just stolen the aforementioned diamond. Barnaby gets progressively more annoyed as Kotetsu keeps trying to play out the scene, until finally it's broken when Pauly's gun fires a real bullet. Pauly flees and jumps into a car, Blue Rose and Fire Emblem pull off their masks and follow him, and Barnaby asks what's going on and Kotetsu explains it was supposed to be a surprise party. Barnaby rants at him about just doing what he wants and imposing on other people.
Notes:
- He took this memory right after he got it, in the Green Knight's Christmas game!
- He has the bunny plush (or an identical bunny plush at least) now!
- Continued in this memory!
Interview & swimsuit photoshoot; variety show; talkshow for kids; you two were excused. Form of a black rose stem with five sharp thorns. Prick your finger on it. 4/5 remaining. Episode 15, 4:30 - 11:10.
The first part is a swimsuit photoshoot and an interview happening simultaneously. Barnaby is in a sexy speedo, but Kotetsu is in an old man suit down to his elbows and knees with an inner tube. Afterwards, Kotetsu complains vocally, but Lloyds says that he couldn't schedule them separately.
KOTETSU: Don't you hate doing this?
BARNABY: No, I don't mind at all.
KOTETSU: Huh?
BARNABY: I'm enjoying each and every day. Everything I see and do feels so different now, compared to when I was living for revenge.
Barnaby also points out their schedule, which despite it being sunset is not done for the day - they still have to do a variety show and a guest role for a New Years anime special.
The next day, they have a radio show, in which Kotetsu talks about how his powers were particularly awesome, and a talkshow for kids, in which they're both asked who they admire most, and Kotetsu says Legend (because he's cool!) but Barnaby says his parents.
BARNABY: My parents were doing research on robots. Their dream was to create a robot that could save people and make the world peaceful. They were great partners at work and at home. I look up to my parents even now.
In the back of the limo on the way afterwards, they talk about Barnaby's parents a bit more, and he says he loved them.
KOTETSU: I wish Kaede would say something like that about me.
BARNABY: I'm sure she does.
KOTETSU: No way. Whenever I call her. All she does is complain. [he pulls up some pictures of 10-year-old Kaede looking grumpy on his wristband] Like how my stories are outdated. Or that my jokes are dumb. Or that my beard is lame.
BARNABY: That's for sure.
Then Kotetsu looks out the window and notices HeroTV playing on one of the big screens on a skyscraper. There are suspects on the run with hostages. He complains to Lloyds that they weren't called, and Lloyds says that he had the two of them excused because they were too busy with interviews and with the Second League heroes around, they weren't needed. Kotetsu yells at him.
KOTETSU: Are you serious?! Our job as heroes is to save people! Not to smile in front of the cameras!
BARNABY: Calm down, Kotetsu.
In the meantime, though, Dragon Kid captures the villain, and Origami Cyclone saves the hostages.
Notes:
- Everything I see and do feels so different now, compared to when I was living for revenge. :U!!!!
- Also Barnaby calls him Kotetsu! :U!!!
- seriously what is all this though, he knew this was part of the job but this is kind of pushing it
