Memory 5 (significant negative)
You're pitiful heroes who cannot save or punish anyone. My name is Lunatic. Form of a white chocolate bone. Episode 7, 14:30 - 21:20.
The heroes are all about to raid a church where five members of a crime syndicate are hiding out! It's going to be televised live. Barnaby is brooding about Ouroboros and "that NEXT with the blue flames" such that he doesn't even care about points! Tiger mentions that Fire Emblem told him he might be silencing criminals for his organization.
KOTETSU: I sympathize with your circumstances, and I know you're feeling impatient, but remember, a job's a job.
BARNABY: I know that, and I don't need your sympathy. A job is a job, after all.
However! Just before he can say more about the NEXT with the blue flames, blue flames rain down from the sky and set the church on fire. Lunatic is there! Barnaby immediately activates his powers and goes after him. Tiger doesn't activate his powers and runs towards the church.
BISON: What are you going, Kotetsu?!
KOTETSU: Isn't it obvious? I'm going to save people! ... Bunny, we've got things covered here. You go after him!
They rush the church, but the criminals all shoot at them, and eventually collapse from the heat/flame/collapsing building before the heroes can get to them. The heroes do eventually pull them all out, but they are unconscious and/or dead, and Kotetsu attempts CPR in at least one case. Meanwhile, Barnaby chases Lunatic across the city, and Lunatic broadcasts a speech so they can all hear it.
LUNATIC: My fellow heroes. Can you hear my voice? The justice you speak of is truly weak and frail. You are pitiful heroes who cannot save or punish anyone. Haven't you realized how useless you are? I shall show you the true meaning of justice. [...] The justice that you heroes believe in can only go so far. It is a false justice. My name is Lunatic. I follow my own code of justice.
Eventually Barnaby's power runs out! He's about to get shot by Lunatic before Tiger shows up and catches Lunatic's hand with a wire.
KOTETSU: I caught you! You psychotic bastard! What you're doing isn't justice at all. It's just murder!
LUNATIC: Just murder? What an interesting thing to say.
KOTETSU: Not as interesting as your face! There's a glove on it.
LUNATIC: ...So, you're Wild Tiger. I'll remember you.
Lunatic escapes as Tiger's power runs out as well! But he tells Bunny that Rock Bison managed to revive one of the criminals.
Effects
- ...For someone not Kotetsu this would probably cause more of an emotional/moral crisis... but he doesn't really take what Lunatic is saying to heart at all, he just thinks he's crazy and wrong. Also he's already gotten back later memories! He'll still be upset by this but it won't have a huge effect on his outlook.
- He is also very clearly trying to moderate/protect Barnaby here, in a subtle way.
- Bison calls him Kotetsu! THAT IS HIS ACTUAL NAME WOO. He probably won't tell anyone though.
- I think this is also the first memory where anyone has called him "Wild Tiger" instead of just "Tiger." FULL HERO NAME YES.
